Information & Referral
101
Learn about standards for a good I&R program, quality assessments, the
advocacy process, and how to determine what referrals best suit the caller's
need(s). Identify and rollplay active listening techniques and skills
that help to clarify needs and to prioritize the steps a caller may need
to take to begin to address their need(s).
Information & Assistance 101
A concentrated review of key competencies needed to provide
I&A services to older adults and their caregivers.
Examine the essential knowledge, skills, attitudes
and work related behaviors a professional must demonstrate
to effectively preform as an I&A specialist in accordance
with AIRS performance based competencies.
Information & Referral 102
Move from dealing with a difficult caller to understanding
difficult behaviors that may interfere with a caller's
ability to seek help. Review active listening skills
and techniques to help you and your caller to overcome
difficult behaviors so you can provide a quality
assessment and empower your caller to be more effective
in seeking help.
Information and Assistance 102:
This workshop will provide further exploration of I&A components
relative to the physical and cognitive considerations
in providing I&A to older clients. During the session
there will be discussion and sharing of techniques
in setting boundries, and stress management..
Crisis Intervention:
This workshop is designed to equip the I&R specialist with
the necessary skills and techniques essential to
diffusing a crisis situation. Topics include; styles
of listening, effective communications, the four
parts of crisis intervention and how to respond to
the caller in crisis.
Database Management:
This workshop will present the basics of resource database
management and design. We will cover the major concepts
involved in creating and maintainng the resource
database, including resource file formats, relational
database structure, web-based systems, and resource
inclusion/exclusion policies. In addition, we will
introduce the AIRS Taxomony and its function, as
well as the AIRS standards relating to the resource
database.
AIRS Certification Testing
CIRS/CRS/CIRS-A Testing
CAIRS will offer AIRS
Certification testing at the Conference.
A $25.00 fee to CAIRS applies for AIRS Testing. Note: Registration
for the CAIRS conference is not a prerequisite for registering for AIRS
Certification testing.

Packets must be submitted to AIRS 30 days
in advance of the test (February 17, 2006).
